In a nation obsessed by the weather, the BBC wanted to introduce more regular summaries throughout the day but with a limited staff and production resource.
Working with the BBC Weather production team, we devised a mini TV presentation system that produced hourly, automated and presenter-free forecasts, whilst maintaining the highest standards of accuracy.
The solution was end-to-end, ingesting data and outputting graphics in the form of 3D animations of UK flyovers, displaying weather information across the country.
To ensure a higher level of reactivity, a tool was built into the system that enabled the production team to manually amend data, quickly and easily under pressure.
So a much better forecast system all round. Pity we can't say the same for the British weather itself.
"Despite the short notice we were able to give BBC Broadcast (now Red Bee Media), we were still able to launch News Summaries with high quality animations that were simple to produce - another example of them BBC Broadcast pulling out all the stops to provide a bespoke service that meets customers' needs and aspirations."
