Drama as the Football Season Finals unfold
Millions tuned in from around to globe last weekend to witness the most dramatic finale in English Premier League history.
Manchester City 3 – QPR 2
What a match! It can never be said that there’s no drama in sports and the Premier League final proved that on Sunday 13th May. Manchester City were crowned champions for the first time in 44 years as they beat Queens Park Rangers. After an epic 90 minutes Man City fans began to accept defeat only to be proven wrong during extra time when Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero scored the winning goals. Not only is this their greatest victory since 1968, it has also prevented Manchester United from claiming their 20th title!
"Never in my life did I see a final like today,” said City’s manager, Roberto Mancini, an Italian flag draped around his shoulders. “A crazy season, a crazy 90 minutes — what can I say?"
AJ Auxerre v Montpellier HSC
Similar events are also unfolding in the French Premier Ligue 1. Last weekend Montpellier HSC scored the winning goal (1-0) against Lille OSC in the very last minuet of extra time.
"The goal right at the end was fantastic and crowned a magnificent season of football at home in front of our magnificent fans." - Montpellier coach, René Girard.
This has secured Montpellier’s place in the final on Sunday 20th May against AJ Auxerre on their home turf in The Stade de l'Abbé-Deschamps. The tension is on the rise as only 3 points separate Montpellier and PGS from the top, if Montpellier is defeated on Sunday the trophy will go to PSG.
Both Sky TV UK and Canal+ use the Piero system when broadcasting these monumental matches and throughout the following highlights. The grand finale at The Stade de l'Abbé-Deschamps this weekend will definitely be one to watch!
