Caption Services
Captioning is the display of written text on a TV or cinema screen to convey the dialogue, narration and sound-effects of the programme or movie.
Viewers can access captions free of charge anywhere in Australia, using a digital TV, digital set top box or an analogue teletext TV. Red Bee Media is the largest provider of captioning services in the country.
Every year, we deliver more than 25,000 hours of captions on behalf of our Australian free-to-air TV network clients – Channel Seven, Nine, Ten and SBS. We also produce thousands more hours of captions for subscription TV channels and TV commercials.
Why Caption?
To meet the broadcast license conditions set by the Broadcast Services Act (BSA) and the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA), free and subscription TV networks must deliver specific quotas of captioned programming.
More than 3.5 million Australians with some degree of hearing loss use captions to enjoy watching television. Captions are also of great value to people learning English and those viewing programs in noisy or public areas such as shopping centres, gyms and airports.
