Red Bee Media provides a rich metadata content discovery solution fit for a world of connected TV.
Freesat, the UK’s fastest growing free-to-air satellite service, planned to launch their next generation Freesat+ box <free time>.
One of the key components of the new service was a DVR (digital video recorder) platform and Freesat wanted a content discovery solution that was consistent, intuitive and easy to navigate; particularly in relation to accessing the wealth of catch-up content on offer.
The navigation experience on <free time> meets the expectations of the IMDB generation in providing additional metadata to enhance the search and browsing process. Red Bee Media provides the standard metadata for all programmes across the BBC, ITV and Channel 5 portfolio of channels for the on-screen TV guide. We then enhance this with a layer of rich metadata in the form of programme images, series and episode information, keywords, cast and crew information, long synopsis and star ratings for all of these channels and also the Channel 4 family of channels.
Freesat’s <free time> focuses on making relevant catch-up content easier to find and Red Bee Media’s rich metadata sits in the backward-scrolling EPG in <free time> as well as the forward-looking EPG.
The modern TV guide and listings is central to the new Freesat offering, and Red Bee Media’s rich metadata makes content compelling and easy to discover. Overall, by aiding the navigation process, viewers should spend less time browsing through vast content and find themselves with more free time to enjoy their chosen programmes.
