Saying goodbye to videotapes

When Virgin Media TV asked us to help them become more efficient, creative and profitable, it was the start of a long and fascinating journey that broke new ground in British media operations.

The Challenge

The technical brief was to devise a radical and future proof solution to VMTV’s playout, content management and promotional requirements. They wanted a tapeless operation.


The Solution

We built playout and ingest in our local facility and channel operations four miles away in VMTV’s HQ. A digital asset management system scheduled workflow between the two sites, while a tapeless Creative Village allowed VMTV’s channel team to work in a file-based and end-to-end environment.


The Result

Virgin Media TV’s creative flexibility is now much improved and we continue to modify the workflow solution to match their changing needs. The fact that we now convert their media for use on BT Vision, Virgin Media and Sky is only a fraction of the potential. We can make their content available anywhere in the world -- efficiently, easily and without a tape in sight.
