In 2008 Channel 4 became the last UK terrestrial broadcaster to outsource their Linear Playout, On Demand and Post Production Services. Their objective: to find a partner they could trust to anticipate their ever changing needs.
The Challenge
As supplier of linear playout, on-demand and post-production services to Channel 4, we aim to keep them connected to their viewers and help them navigate an ever-changing technological landscape.
The Solution
A two-site operation, with ingest, playout, media storage, access services and on-demand functionality at our Broadcast Centre and post-production plus desk-top browsing facilities at Channel 4’s offices. At the heart of everything -- a digital asset management system and workflow engine.
The Result
Channel 4 can now meet new challenges with little disruption. E4 HD and Film4 HD were launched quickly due to the smart technical infrastructure. More4 HD will do likewise. Extra scale meant we could increase to 100% subtitling and 20% audio description across the portfolio by January 2011.
