Red Bee Media, a leading global media services provider, has won the prestigious “Best Audio Description for a Series” Hermes Award for localization excellence, organized by the Entertainment Globalization Association based in California, USA.

The prize was received for providing the Audio Description for BBC/BBC Studios series “Frozen Planet II”. The Audio Description was written by Simon Williams and Adam Watkins and narrated by Elena Sadler. Red Bee Media’s success at the Hermes Awards on this nature documentary series is an excellent achievement for the company and recognizes Red Bee Media’s commitment to making great content accessible to all. Red Bee Media offers a range of accessibility options, including pre-recorded and real-time subtitling, audio description and signing.

"We are honored to have received the Hermes Award from the EGA. Frozen Planet II showcases the power of audio description and its ability to provide blind and partially sighted people with access to world-class, flagship natural history content. Unlike dialogue-heavy programmes, which can have little space for audio description, natural history programmes often present the Describer with an abundance of time and scope for crafting Audio Description that does justice to the unique and often groundbreaking visuals. This requires the Describer to make appropriate and sympathetic editorial choices.”

Marie Campbell, Audio Description Excellence Lead, Red Bee Media

The Entertainment Globalization Association was established to provide a forum where professionals involved in the globalization of entertainment can work together on shared opportunities to improve and refine the art and science of retelling stories across languages and cultures. EGA’s Hermes Award in Entertainment Localization Excellence was created to celebrate excellence in the art and science of global storytelling and is the first international peer-reviewed awards program in the industry

The EGA’s Awards Committee consists of a large panel of industry professionals.

Red Bee Media’s Audio Description for BBC/BBC Studios beat stiff competition from highly regarded AD practitioners at Deluxe (for Netflix/Dreamworks Animation and Disney), Descriptive Video Works (for Netflix/Dreamworks Animation) and International Digital Centre (for Netflix).
